I am currently an undergraduate student at Saint Mary’s University completing my honours with Dr. Tim Frasier as well as a diploma in forensic science. I’m studying the possible effects of inbreeding on fitness in the North Atlantic right whale. More specifically, I’m working on quantifying measures of individual fitness across the population and measuring the correlation between inbreeding and both reproductive success and survival. I’m interested in how DNA and genetic analysis can be used in two main areas: species conservation and forensic serology. I am passionate about the protection of endangered species as well as the criminal justice system and am interested in the growing ways genetics is being used to improve our understanding in both fields.
